Non-Profit Pitch Night Received an Extra $2,000 in Award Money
One week ago, Startup Sioux Falls and Zeal Center announced a new event called Non-Profit Pitch Night. This event will bring together the Sioux Falls area startup community on Zoom, and some local 501(c)3 non-profits who are in startup mode will make a pitch. Then the audience gets to vote on their favorite pitch. Originally, there was a $1,000 first prize which would go to the winner out of three non-profits. However, there has been a development. An extra $2,000 in award money has been donated! Therefore, Startup Sioux Falls and Zeal Center is now going to accept FOUR non-profits to pitch, and the first place prize will be $2,000. There will also now be a second place prize of $1,000.
The community support doesn’t end there. This morning, Sunny Radio announced that they will give $1,000 in advertising spots and a radio interview to the winning non-profit. It’s been exciting to see the support of this event and our local non-profits pouring in.
All four non-profits on December 1st will leave with professional advice on their pitches from Cindy Elifrits Peterson, founder and CEO of Maximizing Excellence. When discussing Non-Profit Pitch Night, Cindy said, “The word ‘entrepreneur’ is not commonly associated with the nonprofit sector. I would argue any program or project designed from scratch to meet a need as part of a non-profit carries all the same entrepreneurial elements as does a for-profit venture.” We are thrilled to have Cindy sharing her time and expertise as part of this event.
There are just a few days left for non-profits to apply to be a part of this event. Monday, November 23rd at 7:00 AM is the deadline for non-profits to apply to pitch, and the four finalists will be selected later that day. Here’s the application form. The non-profits must have 501(c)3 status, have been formed within the last five years, and be located in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area.
